Revisiting Lingering Linking Issues: Now; Never-Ending?

Abstract

Robert L. Linn made numerous contributions to the field of educational assessment, through his professional service, teaching, publications, and the influence he had on those who followed his work. In the early 1990s, Bob shared his insights on linking. His work influenced me when I was engaged in linking ACT and SAT score scales in the late 1990s. As Chairperson of the Board on Testing and Assessment of the National Academy of Sciences, Bob was instrumental in fostering the publication in 1999 of Uncommon Measures: Equivalence and Linkage Among Educational Tests. Decades later, linking issues linger. They will always need to be revisited to ensure that the lessons of history are appreciated by new generations of educational assessment professionals.
