This research is based on an investigation into the role of education research associations in the “internationalization of educational research” by the members of the Japan Educational Research Association (JERA) and various academic associations in Japan. We also initiated an international comparison with neighboring cases of East Asia, where education research is expected to contribute to national/local education policies and practices and, at the same time, face both opportunities and threats in rapidly developing regional and global research and outputs in various domains of education research.
