The Role of Stakeholders: Social Justice, Diversity, Equity, Free Speech, and Promising Equity-Centered Practices in Higher Education Inclusion

Abstract

Presidents, faculty, and governing boards are the actors formally identified as part of "shared governance" in higher education. At present, however, we don't know much about the roles these stakeholders play in advancing social justice, equity, and diversity in higher education within shared governance. Join the panelists in a conversation centered on the role of faculty, boards, and presidents in moving towards more equitable campuses through more equity-centered processes so that students have more equitable access, experiences, and outcomes. As they make personnel decisions, select administrators, prepare budgets, determine educational policies, and more, how are these leaders considering the myriad and distinct needs of changing demographics in postsecondary communities. In essence, we unpack the challenges and opportunities of shared governance with a social justice lens.
