Abstract

This study examined the associations between sports- and physical activity-related concussions (SPAC) and suicidal ideation using the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), a school-based survey on adolescent risk behaviors. Two binary logistic models were constructed to investigate the impact of psychosocial vulnerability on the relationship between SPACs and suicidal ideation. While SPACs have been found to be significantly associated with the risk of suicidal ideation, after controlling for psychosocial stressors, this association was no longer significant, supporting the role of psychosocial vulnerability in adverse mental health outcomes post-concussion.
