This study explored (1) students’ incoming concerns about an introductory statistics course (n = 1,209), (2) Latinx students’ concerns (n = 474), (3) and how Latinx students’ concerns differ across institutions (Hispanic versus Predominantly White Serving Institutions). The same five concerns (understanding concepts, R-coding, performance, time management, and workload) were mentioned by at least 10% of both the full sample and the Latinx subsample. In addition, many Latinx students were concerned about virtual learning. Latinx students at PWIs were more concerned about R coding and lack of prior knowledge whereas Latinx students at HSIs were more concerned about math anxiety and prior negative math experiences. Context needs to be taken into consideration when designing interventions to create positive learning environments.
