Abstract

This paper aims to examine current trends from the studies concerning online education of international students. For this purpose, systematic review was used as the research methodology. 43 articles from different databases were reviewed. The findings revealed that research on the topic gains popularity among researchers after 2019; US is the leading country with the highest number of publication; the most popular online learning modes are synchronous and asynchronous; the most commonly used research method is qualitative. Finally, researchers tend to focus on international students’ factors and the examination and development of different technologies applied in virtual classes. Technical issues and factors related to online instructors are underexamined. Various suggestions are made for practitioners and future research.
