This study uses narrative inquiry to examine the experiences of three novice teachers from different racial, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds as they are conceptualizing their new identities as teachers. The participants include a Vietnamese American man who grew up economically struggling, a biracial woman who spent years disassociating with her African American roots, and an African immigrant who is learning to view her linguistic and racial backgrounds as resources. Coming from very different backgrounds, they share experiences that can help us re-examine teacher education to be more culturally inclusive. Intersectionality is the guiding analytical framework as I delve into how their multi-layered identities intersect and how they are influenced by systems of power which helps form their pedagogies.
