Family (Hi)Story in My Dancing Body

Abstract

This dance performance is the culmination of a first phase of research on how my body carries the (hi)story of my grandfather, Secondo, who was captured and became an Italian Military Internee prisoner during World War II. The project is an investigation at the possibility of reconstructing this piece of family history via and through my dancing, but it moves from the personal to the social as it also became an opportunity to explore an arts-based research methodology that combines somatic dance improvisation with interviews and archival findings.
