Accessibility and Community of Care: The Case of It's Enough (for a Rooftop)

Abstract

This paper offers insight into the community-engaged practices of All Bodies Dance Project (ABDP), a dance company based in Vancouver (BC, Canada) that brings together diverse artists. ABDP seeks to reframe who is perceived as a dancing body and asks questions about community of care and connection.

By sharing the arts-driven community-engaged research project, called It’s Enough (for a rooftop), I will offer insights into the process of accessible and inclusive dance making. ABDP community-engaged approach values process over product and strives to provide an aesthetic of access. In the paper, I describe the ways in which ABDP’s practice exemplifies the intersection of ethic and aesthetic, particularly an ethic of hosting and caring.
