Virtual Intercultural Seminar on Diversity and Intercultural Competence With Telepresence Robots Enhances Students' Cultural Intelligence (Poster 9)

Abstract

We investigated a newly developed concept for a virtual seminar on diversity and intercultural competence, which aimed to increase students’ Cultural Intelligence (CQ). A special feature of this concept was that it integrated telepresence robots to enable the participating students to experience intercultural interactions in real environments. We evaluated the new concept using data from 135 college students from Germany and Kenya. One half of these students actively participated in one of two joint intercultural seminars. The other half did not participate in the seminars or participated only passively. Latent change score models revealed significant increases in metacognitive, cognitive, and behavioral CQ among the (active) participants of the seminars. No change in CQ was found in the control group.
