Abstract

This study seeks to understand the effect of rural students’ college knowledge on their postsecondary intentions. Rural students experience inequitable learning and college opportunities as compared to their suburban and urban counterparts, and they are an understudied population. Using a survey of high school seniors at five rural schools, we use logistic regression to predict the effect of the student’s college knowledge and motivation on their postsecondary plans. Our findings show that being extremely motivated in school, and college knowledge, does influence students’ plan to attend a four-year college.
