This paper outlines how a researcher father engaged in poetic duoethnography with his teenage daughter for a research article discussing banned and controversial books. By writing poetry from their respective views of the impact reading such books has had on the daughter’s life, both participants were able to make greater sense of their own lived experience, as well as unpacking broader societal implications. Included in the paper are the theoretical foundations of the process, as well as frameworks and results from the study itself. The author’s implication is that the method employed may be useful in future studies as researcher-participants navigate (auto)ethnographic endeavors in the arts-based field
