We are a university professor and two students (one a present student and one a former). The purpose of this research was to use the Self-Study of Teacher Education Practices (S-STEP) methodology to learn about how two instructional coaches and a university teacher educator navigated relational knowing and thinking about our roles. We are all from the southwest U.S. and we serve teachers in both rural and urban districts. To this end, we offer stories that resonated with the Niobe myth as tension between being strong rock-like supports for teachers, while also being human.
