Growing Teacher/Educator Reflection and Pedagogy Through Autobiographical Narrative Inquiry That Centers Indigenous Ethical Relationality

Abstract

Elder Jimmy O’Chiese reminded us that “Creator gave us one air, one water, one world, one life. We were supposed to be learning from each other, according to the treaties; we were supposed to be teaching each other our education as it is. That’s what it means to truly co-exist. Respecting each other’s own education.” (2017, p. 23). Our paper shows our growing toward Elder Jimmy’s teachings of co-existence among Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples as we collaboratively inquire into Author 2’s experiences with assessment and Author 1, 3, and 4’s coming alongside pre- and in-service teachers to collectively engage in autobiographical narrative inquiry that centers Indigenous understandings of ethical relationality.
