International East Asian students have been experiencing institutional racism, linguicism, and racial microaggressions and have been subject to racial ideologies in the United States. They bring their racial biases to U.S. campuses, and they can also be complicit in racially discriminatory views. Importantly, international students are not given space in classrooms to discuss their experience with racism in their country of origin and/or the U.S. which disadvantageously positions them in a predominantly White society. This research explains a need for a theoretical distinction defining White racial illiteracy and racial ill-literacy of international students of color and concludes with the need for a different type of racial literacy education for international Asian students.
