Abstract

This paper considers what the onto-ethico-epistemological perspectives of punk rock may provide the field of qualitative inquiry. That is, how do punk rockers do, know, and be, and what can these perspectives produce for methods and methodologies? To address this, we put punk's onto-ethico-epistemological underpinnings into conversation with Foucault, and we theorize a delinquent ethos that is productive for doing qualitative research that pushes against power and questions a priori and assumed notions of truth. In doing so, we offer an alternative reframing of how to think about qualitative research, and ask how we can do qualitative research as art in the punk rock mode.
