Locale Matters: Teacher-Principal Ethnoracial Matching, Geography, and New Teacher Career Outcomes

Thu, May 4, 2:30 to 4:00pm CDT (2:30 to 4:00pm CDT), Division A Virtual Sessions, Division A - Administration Virtual Paper Room

Abstract

Educational leaders face a teacher workforce sustainability crisis. Retention for teachers of color is a key focus area given increased teacher burnout, early retirements, and higher turnover rates. Results from this quantitative investigation of teacher-principal ethnoracial matching and teacher retention outcomes provide new findings for Black, Latinx, and new to the profession teachers. We add to existing literature by demonstrating how results vary across school geographic locales and implications for leadership and policy are discussed.
