Enacting Equity Through Self-Study Research: Conceptualizing Scholarly Deployment in Service of Social Justice

Abstract

The purpose of this presentation is to offer a conceptualization of self-study research that positions its scholarly components as equity-practices resistant to the socio-cultural, political, and environmental crises of the 21st century. It reports on a self-study about self-study research as not only a methodology that can advance social justice through findings or research implications, but also through its scholarly dimensions. It identifies how self-study’s dimensions can be deployed as equity-practices. Analysis led to identifying a series of prompts, questions, considerations, and strategies that can be taken up by teacher educators and other researchers in various aspects of self-study research. Collectively, these function as a framework for self-study researchers seeking to deploy the research process in service of social justice.
