Abstract

In this paper, we illustrate an emergent learning trajectory (LT) for developing children’s abilities to understand and create algorithms. This emergent LT is grounded in existing literature in CT (computational thinking), LTs, and child development and is intended to be used to guide curriculum development and instruction in the early childhood classroom and informal learning environments. We describe the process of designing, refining, and testing the LT in an informal learning environment, offer suggestions for future refinement, and discuss ways that this LT can be used to design meaningful CT learning experiences.
