The purpose of this study was to explore the messages sent by the physical space of Teacher’s College at one PWI in the Midwest about what a teacher body should look like. I was interested in uncovering these messages because the current student population is overwhelmingly white and female, and the college has a current push to recruit and retain more Students of Color. Using a material feminist framework, what I found was that participants focused on and found pleasure in the images of Students of Color displayed around the Teacher’s College, despite the fact that the diversity implied by the images did not match the bodies in their classes.
