Abstract

This study explores the role of imagination in educational leadership. Recognizing the challenges involved in leading in complex global conditions, and the need to promote equity, social justice, and decolonization in leadership, we seek to understand the role of imagination in enacting ethical and inclusive leadership practices. Interviews with participants in an imagination-focused M.Ed. in Educational Leadership program highlighted the role of imagination in interrogating ideals of leadership and in offering new possibilities to enact leadership. Specifically, this paper contributes new ideas of imagination as a tool of empowerment and belonging in the context of leadership. This research has significant implications for promoting diversity in leadership through equitable and imaginative leadership education.
