Abstract

Indigenous communities and students have been marginalized by colonial practices, disproportionally referred to special education programs, and encounter systematic prejudice and discrimination in education systems. Reconciliation and educational and system transformation need to work in tandem if we are to disrupt hierarchical practices and structures that enact a hidden curriculum of privilege and racism. Collaboration with Indigenous community partners within education change networks hold potential to support transformation and redefine student success. Analyses revealed the following themes: participants (1) valued the contributions of local knowledge keepers, stories, and knowledge; (2) referenced learning over time and revisiting key concepts; (3) took up their learning in diverse ways from reflexive self-inquiry to immediate classroom application; and (4) identified structural factors.
