Thu, April 13, 4:40 to 6:10pm CDT (4:40 to 6:10pm CDT), Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Floor: 4th Floor, Grace

Abstract

The goal of this study was to establish the validity of the Learning Resources Rubric. This tool,
based on principles associated with deeper learning, supports instructional designers’ decisionmaking in building or choosing effective learning resources that will stimulate deeper learning in
the digital era. A three-stage study was conducted among novice instructional designers to
determine the LRR’s validity and usability. Quantitative and qualitative data collected resulted in
a final version of the LRR comprised of 10 items on a four-point response scale. A combination of
observations, interviews, and online document analysis were used to validate and cross-check
findings. Results indicated that the LRR’s item and instrument validity and usability were found to
be satisfactory. Practice contributions of LRR are discussed.
