What Leadership Distribution Patterns Are Associated With Teacher Professional Learning Communities and Satisfaction?

Abstract

Scholars maintain that some leadership distribution patterns are more effective than the others, but there is still a lack of empirical research that focuses directly on leadership distribution patterns that produce more beneficial outcomes at the student/teacher/school level. Therefore, for this research, we investigated leadership distribution patterns that were connected to the positive outcomes, especially teacher PLC development and satisfaction, by employing latent class analysis (LCA) with the three-step approach. Moreover, we used the U.S. lower secondary school teacher samples of TALIS data to explore leadership distribution patterns from the teachers’ perspective. We found two groups, namely Dualistic Distribution group and Fully Stretched-Over Distribution group, and there is a significant mean difference in teacher PLC score between these two groups.
