The COVID-19 pandemic has made online learning a new routine for many students in China. This study takes senior students of a state-heavy high school in southwest China as the research participants and tries to explore new common collective memories are generated by the individual ways of presentation and cultural identity of these students during the epidemic online classes, their perceiving and understanding of their own behavioural changes and cultural identity towards the state and nation, and the reasons. Drawing on 15 in-depth interviews and fieldwork, using theories of collective memories as an analytical framework, this paper argues that individual and collective memories are inter-weaved together through schooling on the cloud and discourse practice on the ground.
