This transcendental phenomenology centers on the perceptions and experiences of New Americans who attended high schools in a smaller urban area located in North Dakota. Using Anderson et al.’s (2014) ecology of inclusive education (EIE), a model that helps to uncover the dynamic and evolving processes among multiple levels of influence that ultimately reinforces inclusive education or exclusionary practices within a classroom, we examined the social and academic experiences of New Americans, underscoring the factors that promote or undermine an inclusive education experience. The researchers provide recommendations for policy and practice that support the inclusion of New Americans in all schools, including ways to disrupt bias in classrooms and schools and approaches to providing supports for New Americans and their families.
