On the Utility and Longevity of a Faculty Self-Study Learning Group

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to describe the nature and structure of a faculty self-study learning group that has been meeting continuously for the last eight years in one department of education. More specifically, this paper aims to: (1) describe how engagement in the group contributed to the learning and professional development of the participating teacher educators; (2) explore what factors have led to its relative success, both in terms of its utility and longevity; and (3) offer guidance for others in similar situations, to potentially establish even more robust and diverse spaces for the ongoing professional development of teacher educators.
