El Plan de Santa Barbara: A Rereading and Loving Critique

Abstract

The purpose of this proposal is to offer a re-reading of El Plán de Santa Barbara, an important yet understudied moment in Latina/o/x higher education. It juxtaposes the original text with scholarly writings about El Plán in order to consider the document’s legacy, what challenges Latina/o/x students still face in higher education today, and what considerations might be made for another higher education master plan for the next 50 years.
