Within an experimental laboratory study 105 seventh graders were assessed on their perception of feedback. After working with a digital learning platform on fraction tasks and getting two different types of feedback (knowledge of result vs. elaborated feedback) the students’ perception of feedback has been evaluated by using a questionnaire. Results of this evaluation seem to be counterintuitive: Students receiving the knowledge of result feedback perceive it as more useful and supportive than those receiving elaborated feedback. Implications of these findings for teaching and learning have to be discussed seriously.
