Abstract

Public libraries are important community anchor institutions, and more research is needed to explore their role in service provision for young children with disabilities and/or developmental delays (YCwD/DD). To add to this literature, this paper reports findings from focus group interviews with early intervention service coordinators across three states (KY, MO, KS). Results show that libraries function as important hubs of community service provision and social interaction. Their role in communities should be strengthened to render access more equitable for this population. Overall, John Dewey’s view of pragmatism and, specifically, his view of social justice emphasizes the importance of equal access to community resources to facilitate equitable outcomes for all community members.
