Extended Time Test Accommodations: Does Use Correspond to Valid Test Scores for Students With Disabilities?

Abstract

Extended time is provided to students with disabilities during achievement testing with the intent to facilitate better measurement; however, empirical findings have varied in terms of the extent to which extended time conditions facilitate accurate measurement. However, existing studies have not carefully attended to whether students used extended time. NAEP test process data will be used to explore measurement comparability for students with disabilities who truly used extended time. PolySIBTEST will be used to explore DIF that is present for those students using and not using extended time. Results will provide a glimpse into the advantages of using test process data to explore use of accommodations, as well as to offer precise information on measurement comparability for accommodated test administrations.
