Thu, April 13, 9:50 to 11:20am CDT (9:50 to 11:20am CDT), Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Floor: 7th Floor, Grand Ballroom Salon III

Abstract

This study examined various stakeholders’ perspectives on an arts education collaboration between a Northwestern school district, a local arts organization, and a nationally-recognized center. Arts educators, general educators, organization board members, administrators, and artists in residence participated in this study. The interview data analysis showed how each participant highlighted moments, experiences, or people that sparked their lifelong relationship with the arts. Findings also described the health of the current arts ecosystem and suggested that key arts-based learning principles could support student learning across the curriculum. This work demonstrates the potential of arts education to impact students’ learning, identities, and career pathways, while also highlighting how additional efforts are needed to nurture such an ecosystem and sustain arts education school-community partnerships.
