Becoming an International Teacher Educator: A Narrative Account of Identity-in-the-Making

Thu, April 13, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, Chicago, Floor: 2nd Floor, Bering

Abstract

This proposed autobiographical research focuses on my journey to becoming an international teacher educator. Marker points along the career continuum are elucidated. Using narrative inquiry’s interpretative tools of broadening, burrowing and storying-restorying, I dig deeply into “happenings” and “doings” in my career, which, over time and place, shaped my being. Included is a sketch of my work trajectory along with a map highlighting travel. The central research focus is “stories to live by,” but stories of leaving and stories to begin again are also threaded in. This work focuses on how the national morphs into the international. It demonstrates how seemingly unrelated story threads combine to produce near-optimal global experiences, which, in turn, positively enhance local teaching/research endeavors.
