UndocuJoy: Black and Mexican Undocu/DACAmented Collegians' Narratives of Joy as Resistance Amid an Anti-Im/migrant Sociopolitical Climate

Fri, April 14, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Lobby - Level 3, Columbus AB

Abstract

This narrative inquiry study examines how Black and Mexican undocu/DACAmented collegians use joy to navigate higher education. A lack of published research exists on how these collegians experience joy as an act of resistance despite navigating barriers, such as anti-im/migrant exclusionary policies and racist campus climates. Our findings highlight their experiences with familial, peer-to-peer, and artistic joy.
