Thu, April 13, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: 2nd Level, Gold Room

Abstract

This mixed-methods study explored the impact of a Hip Hop based counselor education course on school counseling master’s student’s multicultural competence development. In this study, students were trained in using a Hip Hop mixtape making model for group work, and then facilitated a small-group at a partner High School. Analysis of a pre- and post-course survey and student’s journal entries detail the impact of this novel course on the participants' development and offer implications for research and practice.
