An Examination of Cutoff Score Setting in Early Childhood Screening for Mental Health Referral (Poster 13)

Abstract

Ages and Stages Questionnaire-Social Emotional, Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2) is widely used to screen young children for mental health referrals. The decision benchmark is represented by cutoff scores from a normative sample. Although the sample size reached 16,424, missing data occurred to 6,039 cases for the cutoff score configuration. The incomplete data supported fluctuation of cutoff scores against an irreversible pattern of child growth. To disentangle this issue, content analyses are conducted on the structure difference between ASQ:SE-2 instrument and its predecessor (ASQ:SE). The missing data examination is further extended to demographic variables to assess population representation under a well-established model of context, input, process, and product (CIPP). Suggestions are derived from the qualitative and quantitative reviews for the cutoff score improvement.
