Sat, April 15, 9:50 to 11:20am CDT (9:50 to 11:20am CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 2, Ohio

Abstract

Using the qualitative meta-synthesis method, this study addressed three broad questions upon character education in the US colleges— its present state, its effectiveness, and the logic of its necessity. Based on the research findings, this study gives account of the current state of college character education in the US, the programs and practice applied, and the explanation of why it matters. A final synthesis was made to address the mutually interactive relationships of individual learners and educators, institutional management, and national support and policy in the mechanism of college character education. The study can be informative for practitioners, institutional organizers, and policymakers to capture the big picture of college character education, making adaptations and improvement.
