Service-Learning and Post-College Volunteering: A Longitudinal and Propensity Score Approach

Abstract

This paper contributes empirical evidence that service-learning is associated with post-college volunteering, accounting for a host of precollege, college, and proximate volunteering factors. Employing inverse propensity to treatment weighting, this paper accounts for selection bias, a persistent problem is research on high-impact practices. This paper also argues that current longitudinal survey grounded in traditional student experience frameworks may not be adequate to understand the benefits of high-impact practices on racially minoritized student populations.
