Abstract

Social presence (SP) is indispensable because emerging practices signal the need for more social-emotional approaches. The dynamics of social-emotional were less visible. With nascent technology, educators can now monitor socio-emotional development. Owing to the nature concomitant to relational behavior data, social-emotional learning offers predictive analytic powers to ascertain the knowledge of social interaction. This study examined: How student’s positive, negative, and socio-emotional sentiments of discussion posts will change over time? How will student’s SP moderate the temporal trend positive, negative, and socio-emotional sentiments in discussion posts? The findings indicated SP didn’t moderate the flat trend of positive sentiment, the upward trend of negative sentiment, and the socio-emotional sentiments. These observed phenomena remained the same for students with different levels of SP.
