Abstract

The structure of an implementation intention is the “if-then” strategy that provides plans in promoting an individual’s self-regulation to implement courses of actions under specific situations and finally achieve preset goals. This study utilized eye-tracking technology to understand if implementation intention strategy promotes better visual search patterns and learning outcomes of third graders in multimedia environments. The treatment group not only concentrated more on reading the text message but also performed better than control group. Meanwhile, students received implementation intentions performed more searching and referring between text and pictorial formats of information. Future studies are suggested to realize if implementation intention strategy interact with the complexity of the learning materials on affecting learners’ learning outcome and information procession patterns.
