Examining the Psychometric Properties of the Successful School Leadership Survey

Abstract

This study examined the psychometric properties of the Successful School Leadership Survey (SSLS) by using polytomous latent trait models, a second order Confirmatory Factor Analysis (Second-Order -CFA), a path analysis, and principal component analysis. Data used for this study included valid survey responses from 1401 Texas teachers to the SSLS and the Four Paths Survey measuring four categories of variables mediating leadership’s influence on students. Results of the study indicated that the SSLS could provide researchers with a reliable and valid instrument for use in their future research, leaders with a tool to aid self-reflection and leadership developers with a powerful tool for diagnosing the strengths and weaknesses of program participants.
