Challenges, Solutions, and Gaps: A Critical Interpretive Synthesis of Family and Community Collaboration Literature (Poster 58)

Abstract

Existing research offers multiple frameworks for how schools can engage families and communities to support student outcomes. However, school districts face barriers to implementing best practices that support true family and community collaboration (FCC). This study used a critical interpretive synthesis of research and resources related to FCC to develop guidance that can help districts put these theories into practice. Through an iterative coding and analysis process, the research team developed six categories of goals that are aligned with FCC and common challenges to realizing those goals. These results support the development of specific recommendations and tools to help districts address challenges to FCC, including suggestions for tackling systemic barriers and activities to overcome daily challenges.
