The Crucibles: Achieving Educational Equity in the Fiery Furnace of COVID-19

Abstract

This interactive paper presentation shares findings from a research study and professional learning community during the ongoing COVID pandemic with a large group of PK-12 teachers that was centered around humanizing pedagogies. We explore findings from the study, centered around teacher agency in the context of deprofessionalization and dehumanization. We draw from empirical data about teacher learning filtered through the metaphor of a crucible to illustrate the way fiery trials and tests can bring about agency, humanization, and change.
