Abstract

This paper explores PreK-3 preservice teachers (PSTs)’ digital technology integration in public early childhood (EC) classrooms in Wisconsin. As digital technology has become part of everyday practice and educational medium in EC classrooms, it impacts both teachers’ and children’s educational experience and its quality. Although educational affordances have been increasingly claimed in the past decade, embroiling debates on its appropriateness and confusions on ‘how to’ integrate technology continue to create reluctance among practitioners. Drawing on the quantitative data, this paper shares how EC PSTs integrate technology in teaching and learning. Additionally, we introduce a model named ‘Technology Integration as a Spectrum’ to suggest multiple ways of integrating technology in teaching and learning to meet various purposes with clear intentions.
