Abstract

Experiential learning opportunities provide postsecondary students with direct, real-world experiences that support the development of their professional interests. For students with disabilities requiring accommodations, an additional layer of preparation for the experiential learning experience is necessary. This study aimed to investigate what information postsecondary institutions, specifically higher education’s disability resource office websites, provide regarding accommodations for experiential learning activities. For this study, experiential learning includes internships, field placements, fieldwork, and related non-classroom learning experiences that are required for coursework and/or a student’s degree. A stratified random sample of 10 percent of U.S. postsecondary institutions revealed less than five percent of institution’s disability resource offices provide any guidance on seeking and/or receiving accommodations for experiential learning opportunities outside of the classroom.
