Choral Music Educators' Perceptions of Being "Ready to Teach"

Fri, April 14, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 4, Sheraton Ballroom IV and V

Abstract

This presentation examines what secondary choral music educators perceive as necessary curricular material in pre-service choral methods courses that prepare music teacher candidates to be ready to teach. The research questions guiding this study were: What are the beliefs and perceptions of those already in the field—practicing teachers—of what it means to be ready to teach? And, what do they deem essential topics to cover in a music methods course in order to be ready to teach?
