Reclaiming Local Control Through Superintendents, School Boards, and Community Activism

Abstract

The importance of reclaiming local control of education cannot be underestimated with regard to the types of outcomes and policies derived from state or federal control of education (Alsbury & Whitaker, 2007). Superintendents face challenges with aspiring school board members who are challenging incumbent board members. Superintendents face challenges with aspiring school board members who are challenging incumbent board members (Author, 2022). However, many of these new school board members are culling and courting right-wing conservative organizations like the Heritage Foundation or ALEC for their campaign stump speeches, donations, and general support from GOP seated politicians (Author & Author, 2022).
