Abstract

COVID-19, which is a comprehensive crisis, was also perceived as new opportunities in diverse spheres of life, including education. This study takes an exploratory step to examine whether parental engagement at the time of school closures was sustained after children returned to school? The study is based on a follow-up study of 600 parents during and post COVID-19 (response rate of 47%). The dominant findings indicated that there was a decrease in parents’ engagement and in their trusting educators. The decrease was prominent among low SES parents, compared to mid or high SES. Hence, the expectation for new opportunities in parent-school relations was less realized. Rather, parents may be concerned about their children’s education.
