Abstract

This paper focuses on the exploration of students’ mathematical identity and mathematical mindset, specifically, what the different dimensions are that impact these two concepts. This is part of a larger project aimed at creating a tool to explore students’ mathematical identity more broadly. Using prior research on identity in a mathematics context as a guide, we identified 11 dimensions of mathematical identity which were used to create survey items. We then conducted surveys through student interviews to test out the efficacy of the survey questions in capturing these dimensions in students’ responses.
