Agency has been widely debated in a sociological context, yet it continues to be a growing area of study for scholars and educators alike. The pervasive nature of digital technologies, combined with data mining and the technologising of education systems, raises further questions regarding the agential practices of children.
This study uses qualitative research methods to explore the entanglement of agential practices between children, parents, institutions and digital devices. By exploring the relational nature of agency and the practices of these agents when using digital devices for learning (informal and formal), this research conceptualizes agential practices in a digital age and the forces that enable and hinder such agency.
